Confused about the difference between ‘double cylinders’ and ‘single cylinders’?

Single cylinder locks have a keyhole on one side, operated with a key, while the other side has a turn-snib without the need for a key. Double cylinder locks, in contrast, feature keyholes on both sides, requiring a key for both interior and exterior operation.
The choice between them hinges on security, safety and convenience considerations. Double cylinders are the preferred option if higher security is the main priority, however single cyinders are usually the preferred option for convenience and safety in an emergency situation, where a fast exit from the house is required.
